What close-only means

Venezuela is on Polymarket's official geoblocking list, in the group restricted for regulatory reasons. That group runs in close-only mode: anyone who already held positions can close them, but nobody can open new ones. Orders sent from a blocked region are rejected.

For Venezuela the restriction covers both the website and the API, the route used by trading programs and bots. That sets it apart from countries such as Ireland, Japan or the Netherlands, where close-only applies to the website alone.

A platform restriction, not a local regulator's

Unlike Spain, Argentina or Colombia, the sources show no court order and no Venezuelan regulator behind this: Polymarket itself restricts access. Its documentation does not give reasons country by country, so this page does not tie the restriction to any specific law.
