Polymarket in Spain: is it blocked? Status in 2026

Blocked

On 26 May 2026 the DGOJ ordered internet providers to block Polymarket and Kalshi and opened disciplinary proceedings for operating without a licence. Promoting unlicensed operators is also penalised in Spain, so this site shows no sign-up links to visitors from Spain.

This site does not publish sign-up links for countries where Polymarket is blocked or restricted. We do not recommend using a VPN to bypass blocks: it violates Polymarket's terms and can leave your account in close-only mode.

What the DGOJ did on 26 May 2026

Spain's gambling regulator, the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego, ordered internet providers to block both Polymarket and Kalshi as a precautionary measure. At the same time, the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030 opened disciplinary proceedings against the two companies, which the DGOJ says were operating in Spain without the licence they need.

The case turns on a definition. The DGOJ restated that, in Spain, prediction markets count as games of chance when people stake money on uncertain future outcomes, and that offering them requires a specific administrative licence. Neither platform held one.

What a precautionary block means

The block is not the final penalty. It is an interim measure that stays in place while the proceedings run; in May 2026 Cointelegraph reported that they were expected to take three to four months. Once a decision is published, this page will carry it with the date.

The fact that Kalshi was caught too says a lot about the reasoning. Kalshi is regulated by the CFTC in the United States, but that approval carries no weight in Spain. What matters to the DGOJ is a Spanish licence, not oversight somewhere else.

Risks if you live in Spain

The proceedings target the companies, and the sources cited here do not set out penalties for users. One point does reach third parties: promoting unlicensed gambling operators is also penalised in Spain. That is why this site shows no sign-up links to visitors from Spain and this page sticks to information.

It is also worth noting that Polymarket does not list Spain among its restricted countries. The barrier comes from the Spanish regulator rather than the platform, and how far it goes depends on the outcome of the proceedings. We will update this page when the DGOJ publishes anything new.
